Team building and seminars in the Gironde: 10 activities, 3 sample programmes and the organiser's guide

Kayak and paddleboard on the private lake at Domaine du Dahu, for team-building activities

Planning a team building in the Gironde or a company seminar near Bordeaux, and looking for something other than a hotel meeting room? In Sablons, between Libourne and Coutras, Domaine du Dahu brings together everything needed to bond a team of 5 to 18 people: a 3-hectare private lake, a function room, a gîte and five floating chalets with no overlooking neighbours. For a day or for two, the place is yours alone.

This guide gathers what an organiser needs to know: the activities, three sample programmes, the city-versus-countryside comparison, the checklist and the practical questions.

10 team-bonding activities, at the estate and nearby

1. The catch-and-release fishing challenge on the private lake

Nobody thinks of it first, yet it is one of the most surprising team activities. On the lake, with no fishing licence needed, form pairs, rank the first catch or the biggest, and let patience do the rest. It flattens hierarchies, imposes calm and sparks the quiet conversations that never happen at the office. Pike, zander, black bass and carp await.

2. A paddleboard race on the lake

To liven up an afternoon: team relays, skill courses, balance challenges. Everyone brings their own paddleboard or inflatable canoe (the estate does not provide any), life jackets are compulsory and swimming is not allowed. Sporty, joyful, bonding — the laughter breaks the ice within minutes.

3. An escape game in Libourne

20 minutes away, Lib'Escape offers escape rooms where the team must cooperate, communicate and delegate under pressure. Ideal for revealing organisational and leadership talents, in a short format that slots between two highlights at the estate.

4. Laser tag to burn off energy

Another Libourne outing, the Vertigo Park laser tag relies on adrenaline and squad strategy: coordinate, cover each other, aim at a common goal. Perfect for a group that wants to let off steam after a morning of work.

5. A wine tasting hosted by Thomas

The Gironde is also about wine. At the estate, the tasting is hosted on site by Thomas: far from a lecture, a convivial moment to discover together the wines of Saint-Émilion, Pomerol and Fronsac, share impressions and learn to describe what you taste. Details on the wine tourism page.

6. Team olympics by the lake

The great classic, but in the open air: teams mixing departments, skill workshops, relay games, group riddles, a scoreboard kept all day. The lakeside offers a playground no seminar room can replace.

7. A barbecue boat cruise at the Moulin de Porchères

15 minutes away, an electric boat that needs no licence, round like a doughnut, with a barbecue in the middle: a 2.5-hour grilling cruise on the Isle (€39 per adult, food basket prepared by the guinguette). The perfect team lunch with zero logistics. See the barbecue boat.

8. An electric bike ride through the vineyards

LOVELEC 33 delivers the bikes straight to the estate. The team rides the lanes of Sablons, follows the vines and can reach Saint-Émilion, 20 minutes away. Electric bikes put everyone on an equal footing, whatever their fitness.

9. An evening under the stars or a themed evening

A good team building does not end at nightfall. Drinks on the covered terrace by the lake, dinner delivered by a local caterer, a themed evening or a musical moment in the function room. Far from light pollution, evenings often end with eyes turned up to the starry sky.

10. Quiet time in nature

Not every bonding activity has to be a competition. A reflection workshop facing the lake, a silent walk among the trees, a coffee on the terrace with no agenda: this breathing space encourages perspective, deeper conversations and collective wellbeing.

Three sample programmes: team day, 2-day seminar, kick-off

The right length depends on the goal. A day is enough to bond or to say thank you; two days are needed to work on substance; a kick-off combines both at the moment the team needs it most. The three outlines below are adjustable: the venue adapts to your programme, not the other way round.

The team day (9am – 6pm, no overnight stay)

from €990

Who for: End of a project, onboarding newcomers, thanking the team, a quarterly ritual. Contained budget, no rooms to manage, everyone goes home in the evening.

  • •9am — Welcome and coffee by the lake, introduction
  • •9.30am — First bonding activity (olympics, fishing challenge)
  • •11am — Workshop in small groups, in the function room or facing the lake
  • •12.30pm — Lunch delivered by a local caterer, on the terrace
  • •2pm — Afternoon highlight: paddleboarding, tasting, escape game
  • •4.30pm — Group debrief, action plan
  • •5.30pm — Departure

The 2-day residential seminar

from €1,990 for 2 nights

Who for: Leadership seminar, strategic thinking, annual review: the format where you work, dine and sleep on site. The continuity from the first coffee to the last evening makes all the difference.

  • •Day 1 morning — Arrival, settling into the gîte and floating chalets, kick-off
  • •Day 1 afternoon — Working session, then a team-building activity at the end of the day
  • •Day 1 evening — Catered dinner, tasting with Thomas, evening under the stars
  • •Day 2 morning — Breakfast at the estate, workshops facing the lake, summary and action plan
  • •Day 2 afternoon — Lunch, walk around the lake, departure

The back-to-work seminar or kick-off

on quote

Who for: In September or January, to set the course for the year, celebrate past successes and bond the team before the months ahead. Three goals: set the course, re-motivate, unite.

  • •Day 1 afternoon — Framing session: review of the past year, vision, objectives, roadmap
  • •Day 1 late afternoon — Bonding activity that flattens hierarchies
  • •Day 1 evening — Recognition evening: celebrate successes, welcome newcomers
  • •Day 2 morning — Team workshops, group summary, action plan for the year
  • •Day 2 afternoon — Free time, departure with a clear course

Countryside or city seminar: which to choose?

The city has real strengths: access by train or plane, turnkey business hotels, equipped conference rooms, restaurants for free time. For a national convention or an event of several hundred people, it remains the rational choice. Its downside weighs heavily as soon as the stakes are human: the team stays within reach of the office and urgent files, the hotel is shared with other groups, and everyone scatters as soon as the working day ends.

The countryside seminar answers each of these limits: disconnection (screens close, real conversations open), exclusivity (nobody but you around the lake), cohesion (you work, dine and sleep in the same place — bonds form around the table and by the water, not in meetings), creativity (calm helps you step back).

Its constraints are manageable: a slightly longer journey, equipment to bring, a format designed for human-sized teams. For a leadership seminar, a kick-off or a team day, the countryside almost always wins.

The estate: accommodation, room, catering, access

  • Accommodation on site — 18 beds in double beds: the charming 170 m² gîte (6 people, large living room with wood stove) as the shared living space, and 5 floating chalets for 2 to 5 people on the lake for everyone's peace after an intense day. Outdoor chalet with kitchenette as a supplement.
  • Work spaces — bright, heated 75 m² room for plenary sessions, covered terrace facing the lake for breaks and meals, outdoors for small-group workshops. No projector or sound system on site: bring your own.
  • Catering — Limnades, the estate's restaurant, opens in early November 2026 (breakfast, brunch, gourmet workshops); the gîte kitchen remains available for the whole group, with the back-up kitchenette in the lakeside chalet, and you remain free to use the caterer of your choice. A chance to introduce the team to Gironde cuisine.
  • Access — Sablons (33910): 40 min from Bordeaux via the A89 (Coutras / Saint-Denis-de-Pile exit), 20 min from Libourne (TGV station), 20 min from Saint-Émilion, Coutras SNCF station 10 min away. Free parking.
  • Prices — for two nights, the starting price applies on weekdays and in low season. Conditions on the company offer and estate rental pages.

The organiser's guide: 6 steps and a checklist

A successful seminar is no accident. A clear goal first — cohesion, strategic thinking, motivation or alignment — because it dictates the venue, the length and the programme. A budget built line by line next (accommodation, venue, catering, activities, transport, 10-15% contingency).

Then a venue that fits the real size of the group, easy to reach, with no other guests around. A programme that alternates work, bonding and conviviality without overloading the days. Logistics that are invisible because they were anticipated. And a debrief, without which the seminar's good ideas get lost.

WhenWhat
3 to 6 months beforeDefine the main goal (cohesion, strategy, thanks, alignment) and success indicators; build the budget line by line (+10-15% contingency); book the venue and date.
2 to 3 months beforeBuild a balanced programme of work / bonding / conviviality; book the activities and the caterer.
1 month beforeAllocate rooms, organise transport and car-sharing, list the equipment to bring (projector, flip chart).
2 to 4 weeks beforeSend participants the programme, directions, dress code and what to bring.
On the dayWelcome, facilitate, stay flexible; put demanding sessions in the morning, fun in the afternoon.
AfterwardsCollect feedback while it is fresh, share the minutes, follow up the action plan. Without a debrief, the good ideas get lost.

The most common mistakes: an overloaded programme, no clear goal, a venue that is too big or shared, informal time forgotten, late communication, no debrief. All can be fixed beforehand.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can Domaine du Dahu host for a seminar? +

Up to 18 people in double beds (11 in single beds) for a residential seminar: a gîte for 6, 5 floating chalets for 2 to 5 people and an outdoor chalet. For a day without an overnight stay, the estate is privately hired from 9am to 6pm; the number of participants is agreed with us depending on the format.

How much does a team building or seminar at Domaine du Dahu cost? +

Day hire (9am-6pm, toilets and covered terrace, no accommodation) starts at €990. The whole estate for 2 nights, 18 beds, starts at €1,990 on weekdays and in low season. Partner activities (escape game, laser tag, barbecue boat, bikes, tasting) and the caterer are extra. Quote within 24 hours.

Is there a meeting room? +

Yes, a bright, heated 75 m² room, with the covered terrace facing the lake. It is not a conference centre: bring your projector and flip chart, and use the outdoors for small-group workshops.

What about catering? +

Limnades, the estate's restaurant, opens in early November 2026: breakfast, brunch and gourmet workshops. The gîte kitchen, equipped for 18 people, remains available to you, and you remain free to use the caterer of your choice — no supplier is imposed. The lakeside chalet also has a back-up kitchenette.

Countryside or city seminar: which to choose? +

The city wins on logistics and large formats (conventions, several hundred participants, many outside speakers). The countryside wins on disconnection, exclusivity and cohesion: at Domaine du Dahu the team stays together from the first coffee to the last evening, with no other group on site. For a team of 5 to 18 people that wants to bond, the private estate is almost always the right choice.

How do we get to the estate? +

Sablons (33910), between Libourne and Coutras: 40 min from Bordeaux via the A89, 20 min from Libourne, 20 min from Saint-Émilion. Coutras SNCF station 10 min away and Libourne (TGV) station 20 min away. Free parking on site.
